- Designed after the Palace of Knossos (on Crete), this steel-rebar reinforced concrete hotel is safely nestled on a hill overlooking a lake and was built to last in 1992.

- The building continues to stand the test of time and is in great condition (while some rooms are in need of updating).

- The hotel’s deep red and yellow ochre columns frame the surrounding lush greenery and breathtaking views of the lake.

- The hotel has an economic break-even occupancy rate of 20%. With the rooms, pool, laundry facility, the LAB's solar hot water and solar photovoltaic panels, operational costs are extremely low.

- Recently the owner added a 26.4-kilowatt grid-tied solar power system on the main building’s roof, making this hotel 90% solar powered. In addition, seven evacuated-tube solar hot water collectors now provide all the hot water needed for the hotel.

- Year-round 8-gallon per minute natural spring provides ample water which after pasteurizing, supplies the hotel’s on-site brewery for free, while piped city water supplies guests with high-quality drinking water right out of the tap.

- The hotel’s surrounding 10.98 acres have been kept free of pesticides and agrochemicals since 1991.

- There is ample room for greenhouses and additional food production.

- Hotel’s well-established landscaping, including many flowering plants and magnificent trees, is also home to families of white-faced and howler monkeys, as well as an array of flora and fauna.
